My name is Joanna Gawthorpe and I am professional piano tutor specialising in helping students from complete beginners to learn to play the piano with confidence and ability.
I like to make my lessons enjoyable for all of my students. During our lessons, we will learn the music that you love to listen to in your spare time and I will create lessons around your needs.
I have many years teaching experience and I am have gained a BMus (Hons) at the University of Huddersfield and a Masters degree in Music for the Moving Image at Leeds Beckett University.
Above all else, I like to always make sure my students enjoy their lessons.

Whether you are interested in developing yourself as a classical piano player or learn contemporary pop and jazz songs I can help to form a course of lessons that is perfect for you. Indeed, I have a lot of experience covering both classical and modern styles of playing.
I can also help you to undertake graded exams up to grade 3 should you be interested, though this is entirely non-compulsory & many of my students simply learn for their own enjoyment.
Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.

I can be flexible with how often you would like to take your piano lessons, that said I would advise having at least two lessons per month, with a lesson once a week working the best to help you learn to play the piano. I am a mobile piano teacher, so am able to travel to you to teach you to play the piano.

I can take students of all ages through graded exams, though this is entirely the decision of the student. Many of my pupils are interested in simply learning through their own interest, something that I am more than happy to cater for. I cover a wide range of different genres, helping my students learn through either classical or contemporary music depending on the preference of the student.

My lessons are currently priced at £16 per half hour and £32 per hour for all students.
I am a mobile piano teacher, so will travel to you to provide piano lessons in the comfort of your own home. I have found that students learn well within the comfort of their own homes, helping my pupils build confidence as well as vocal strength and ability.
I teach all ages as I believe that music is for everyone. I offer my lessons to both children and adults.
Yes, I can help students take grades up to Grade 3. However, this is not compulsory, so you don't have to worry about needing to do exams if you do not want to.
Yes, I provide handouts for all my student's lessons helping my pupils continue their musical development between our lessons.
